
The ruling parties—Nepali Congress ( NC ) and CPN-UML —have decided to hold a decisive talks with the UCPN (Maoist) led 30-party alliance citing that enough time has been wasted in the name of consensus.
A meeting of the ruling parties convened at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday to make a common position for holding talks with the opposition alliance decided to give a one last shot at forging consensus with the opposition parties.
A formal meeting is scheduled to be held among the top leaders of four major parties— NC , CPN-UML , UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties—later today.
Meanwhile, the opposition alliance has announced its second phase of protest programmes in order to put pressure on the ruling parties to reach an agreement within mid-March.
The dialogues between the ruling and opposition parties, which has been stalled after the formation of Questionnaire Committee on January 25, has gained fresh momentum as of late.
The proceedings at Constituent Assembly (CA) have been stopped for an indefinite period to seek consensus.
