Speaking at the press meet organized by the party in its parliamentary office in Singa Durbar, party’s chairman Kamal Thapa said that that constitution based on majority would not be acceptable to it. “We were for accepting the constitution if it was promulgated by January 22,” Thapa said in the press meet. “But as that situation doesn’t exists now, we are now for holding referendum in February-March and constitution promulgation in April-May.”
Thapa said that the core issues of the constitution have not been discussed negligibly in the Constituent Assembly. “We were hoping to hold discussions with NC, UML and UCPN (Maoist),” Thapa said. “But we didn’t discuss for even five minutes in one year.”According to him, it was not the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee or the CA which failed but the top leaders themselves.
He therefore suggested them to take responsibility for this failure and express self-criticism. Thapa also stated that there is no option to go to referendum for secularism, republic, and federalism. “The options presented by NC-UML, UCPN (Maoist)-Madhesi parties and RPP-Nepal should be taken to referendum,” Thapa said. “We will accpet people’s verdict.”
